It’s a big European night in Paris, as Barça visit Paris Saint-Germain
in the first leg of the Champions League quarter finals aiming for a
good result to set up the tie ahead of the return game at the Camp Nou
on April 10th. The team are determined to avoid the kind of result that
made things so difficult for them in the last round against Milan and
will be looking for at least an away goal in Paris, where PSG are
unbeaten since 2007.
Xavi, still a doubt
Barça took a 21 man squad to Paris including Jordi Alba, who was given the medical all-clear on Sunday, whilst Xavi is still a slight doubt, though he is expected to start. That will be down to Tito Vilanova,
who travelled with the squad to Paris, as will the choice of which
three players are discarded for the match day squad and who plays up
front alongside Messi, with Pedro out injured and suspended.
PSG – solid with plenty of punch
PSG have three ex-Barça players in their ranks (Maxwell, Ibrahimovic and the injured Motta)
who will be hoping to put one over on their ex-employees. The French
league leaders are a solid side with plenty of punch up front and will
be out to enjoy only their second ever appearance at this stage of the
competition. With Ibrahimovic finally available, but with both Lavezzi and Thiago Silva
just a yellow off missing the return game in the Camp Nou, PSG will be
out to keep their European dreams alive against a Barça side who remain
hungry for more titles.
